A few years ago someone gave me an olive relish called “muffaletta” (pronounced muf-fa-LOT-a) and that was the beginning. It was so good my husband wanted more. I asked for the recipe and, as I do with everything, I tweaked it and fine tuned it until I had the recipe just the way I wanted it. I served some to my friends and relatives and they loved it too. Soon I was being asked to bring some to every gathering: birthday parties, showers, anywhere there was going to be food. Then I began making it for friends just because they liked it so much. They were telling me about all the things they were using it with and suggested I should market it. After thinking about it I decided this might sell well in gourmet delis and farmers markets. I tested it at various places and soon it became very popular. People were buying it by the pound and I was in business. Amazing Gracie V's is named in honor of my mother, Grace Vivian. She was a classic Italian grandmother type, a great cook and inspiration, both in the kitchen and out. She loved her children and grandchildren, and at the dinner table she was always trying to make peace whenever we got into heavy debates.
